Intervention & Prevention

📚 Supporting Every Student’s Success

At Palms Elementary, we are committed to helping every student grow and succeed. Our intervention programs provide extra support in reading, writing, and math for students who need additional practice and guidance.

Literacy Intervention (Grades K–3)

Students in grades K–3 may receive small-group reading support to strengthen key literacy skills, including:

  • Phonemic awareness (hearing and working with sounds in words)

  • Reading fluency

  • Reading comprehension

Instruction is based on research from the University of Florida Literacy Institute. Students meet in small groups for 25–35 minutes, 3–5 days each week. Our intervention coordinator works closely with teachers to review student data and provide the support each child needs to grow as a reader.

High-Dosage Tutoring (During the School Day)

Palms also offers high-dosage tutoring in math and English language development. Students who need extra support may work in small groups with a certified tutor during the school day. These virtual sessions take place three times a week for 30 minutes and help students build strong skills and confidence.

Free 1-on-1 Tutoring at Home

Families can also access free virtual tutoring through Step Up Tutoring. This program provides one-on-one support for students in grades 2–8 in both literacy and math.

Students meet online with a tutor who helps them practice skills, complete assignments, and build confidence in their learning. Sessions take place at home, making it easy for students to receive extra help outside the school day. Register at stepuptutoring.org/families.

At Palms, we believe every child can succeed. Our teachers and support staff work together to make sure students get the help they need to learn, grow, and feel confident in their abilities.
